BGD Weightless will back for its 7th edition, in Laragne-Monteglin in southern France from 1-7 August 2026.
The competition uses MRT – Multiple Radius Turnpoints – to even up the playing field for pilots in all weight categories, hence the name! Weightless is open to pilots flying gliders up to and including EN-D, and will be run by Flying Karlis Events.
Bruce and his team have been developing MRT over the previous Weightless events.
Here’s an explanation of how it works. In a nutshell: pilots will be put into weight categories according to their all-up weight. All pilots fly the same task with the same turnpoints, but the turnpoint cylinder radii will be different: the heaviest pilots have the smallest cylinder so they fly the furthest, and the lightest pilots have the largest. This compensates for their intrinsic performance differences between different weights, so the race comes down to pilot decision-making and route choices, not size.
3 great reasons to come:1. It is a fun and friendly good vibes competition
2. Laragne is a paragliding paradise, with sunny days, strong thermals and plentiful landing fields all around, making it a popular destination for all levels of competition.
3. You might win a brand new BGD paraglider! As the main sponsor BGD are giving away a new solo paraglider in the prize draw!
