Target

The Tala is for pilots looking for an EN-C rated, accessible, high performance wing. The Tala is good all round wing that performs well in serial competitions and hike and flying.

Description

The Tala is a reassuring three liner for XC pilots who want the great performance in a fun glider that is safe, simple, and lightweight.

Bruce's Notes

In recent years gliders have become very complicated, with more cells, more ribs, and a lot of plastic. The Tala is a wing that has a low cell count (Simple Cells) and a very clean leading edge (Cord Cut Billow).

With a combination of Large Cell Groups and Simple Cells we created the Tala with only 50 cells, reducing the weight, line consumption, and the complexity of the wing. The Tala is a true three liner from top to bottom. It has three main lines in the span-wise direction and only two levels of lines on the first and second main lines. The third main lines split twice making effective big ears easy. We have used only micro-lines on the Tala to help reduce knots. The Tala only has 238m of total line, which is close to most two liners.

Without using fragile lightweight materials the medium size Tala weighs just 4.90kg.

Design features

Cord Cut Billow (CCB)

Cord Cut Billow technology has been developed to improve the form friction, glider stability and overall performance of our paragliders. Two seams run chord-wise across the top panels of the leading edge to accommodate the panel ballooning that happens when the wing is inflated. Up to five centimetres of excess material is created on the sides of an inflated flat panel bending over a wing profile. Cord Cut Billow technology absorbs the material with a 3D panel resulting in fewer ripples and improved rib profile shape and stability.

Optimized Line Layout

Over the years we have perfected our system of optimizing the line layout of our wings. We use numerous equations, software, and the plain old guess and check method to build our line layout. The result is simple: fewer lines making stronger, faster gliders.

Optimized Line Layout
Simple Cells

Normally gliders of this performance have 60 to 75 cells. We have only recently discovered how to make a wing of this efficiency with very low cell count.

Simple Cells
Large Cell Groups

The four cell groups and large cell widths in the Tala means the distance between the tabs is huge! Flight tests have shown the gliders have and increased performance and speed without sacrificing collapse behaviour or cravat tendencies.
