Tech

Chord Cut Billow (CCB)

Chord Cut Billow technology has been developed to improve the form friction, glider stability and overall performance of our paragliders. Two seams run chord-wise across the top panels of the leading edge. They accommodate the panel ballooning that happens when the wing is inflated. Without CCB, up to five centimetres of excess material is created on the sides of an inflated flat panel when it bends over a wing profile. This results in wrinkles. Chord Cut Billow technology removes this excess material and the 3D panel has fewer ripples and improved rib profile shape and stability.

Progressive Stability

Using ALULA, BGD gliders are designed to have a stable and solid centre with progressively softer tips. This teaches pilots to predict and avoid deflations and stay aware of the air.

Snap Locks

Snap Locks are lightweight, compact attachments that connect the brakes to the risers. A small focused magnet inside the catch and an internal locking system hold the handle in place, releasing only if the handles are pulled down towards the pilot. This unique design feature means the handles don’t fall off while kiting, packing, or performing manoeuvres. The Snap Lock system solves many of the problems associated with press-studs and magnets.

Target

The TALA is for pilots looking for an accessible, EN-C rated, high-performance wing. It is good all-round wing that performs well in serial competitions and hike-and-fly.

Designer's notes

In recent years gliders have become very complicated, with more cells, more ribs, and a lot of plastic. The TALA is a wing that has a low cell count (Simple Cells) and a very clean leading edge (Cord Cut Billow).

The Tala is a wing that has a small number of cells (Simple Cells) but whose leading edge is perfectly clean (Cord Cut Billow). By working on the combination of different groups of cells, we were able to make the Tala with only 50 cells, reducing the weight, the total line length and the complexity of the wing.

The Tala is an authentic three-liner, from the bottom to the top of the line. For each half-wing it has 3 lines per row, and only two splits on the two central lines. The third outside line is split in two, making it easy to make effective big ears.

The unsheathed line used is flexible and easy to untangle. The total length of line on the Tala M is only 238 m, which is close to two-riser wings. The weight of the Tala M is just 4.9 kg, achieved without using delicate lightweight materials.
