In a dazzling display of skill and precision, Yang Chen has secured victory at the 12th FAI World Paragliding Accuracy Championships in Sopot, Bulgaria. Flying an Adam paraglider, Chen's remarkable performance left spectators in awe and earned him the prestigious title of World Champion.
The competition, spanning from the 21st to the 26th of October, brought together 129 skilled pilots from 31 countries. What made this championship truly unique was the implementation of new knockout rules, which added an extra layer of intensity to the event. After the initial 6 rounds, only the top 60 pilots continued into the 7th and 8th rounds, followed by just 40 pilots for the 9th and 10th rounds. The climax came with the last two rounds, featuring a mere 20 pilots, creating a fast-paced and exhilarating conclusion.
Yang Chen's journey to victory was nothing short of exceptional. He led from the start, hitting four dead centers with a score of 5cm by round 9. Although a harness touch in Round 10 resulted in a maximum score of 200cm, it became his dropped score in the competition. However, it left no room for error in the final two rounds, where he scored 1cm and 3cm, securing a total score of 14cm and winning the championship by a margin of 21cm.
