Cesar Arevalo won the first competition of the Sports Class Racing Series 2026, which was held at Roldanillo in his home country of Colombia.
Team BGD were Cesar Arevalo, Joao Pinheiro, Johjan Marin and Daniel Sanz. With three of the pilots finishing in the top five overall – Jhojan in 4th and Daniel in 5th – the team took second place to Gin 2.
They also celebrated two task wins: Jhojan won the first and Cesar the fourth and final, 76km task. It was a difficult task: a heavy upper cloud layer made progress very slow, and most of the field were downed after the second turnpoint. Cesar demonstrated great patience, "surviving" low in the valley after the second turnpoint for two hours before finally managing to climb out and make the third turnpoint. He flew until the very last possible minute, to make the 17:15 land-by time having covered 57km. It was the furthest flight of the day, a kilometre further than Carlos Lopes who had also survived the shade, sealing him the task and competition win.
Thanks to the team for some great flying – three Cure 3s in the top five is a fantastic result!
