Info

We are on a mission to put taste, control, and attitude back into gliders. The PUNK is a modern-day rebellion towards bland, tasteless paragliders. This new-age wing is an explosion of feel, controllability, and fun. It is a matter of respect. The PUNK will speak the cold hard truth about the conditions, giving you eyes wide-open safety and performance.

End propaganda. Become enlightened. Make your own choices. Fly the uncensored PUNK.

Tech

Baby A-riser

We have added a 'big ears' A riser which is also on a ½ ratio with the rest of the A lines. This facilitates easy use of big ears while helping speed and stability while on bar. The speed system is light and simple without reflex really helping glide at speed.

Chord Cut Billow (CCB)

Chord Cut Billow technology has been developed to improve the form friction, glider stability and overall performance of our paragliders. Two seams run chord-wise across the top panels of the leading edge. They accommodate the panel ballooning that happens when the wing is inflated. Without CCB, up to five centimetres of excess material is created on the sides of an inflated flat panel when it bends over a wing profile. This results in wrinkles. Chord Cut Billow technology removes this excess material and the 3D panel has fewer ripples and improved rib profile shape and stability.

BGD Feedback

Gliders that talk are safer. Safer gliders make pilots perform better. Better performing pilots fly further. Further flying pilots are happier pilots. BGD Feedback produces happier pilots!

Maximised unsupported cells

Optimised unsupported cell groups are designed to match the span-wise load distribution influenced by the line layout. Coupled with a strong internal structure, the line layouts that create more span-wise tension can support more unsupported cells. While maintaining a homogenous wing, this helps to minimise line consumption reducing drag thus improving performance.

Integrated Line Layout

The line layout of our gliders is fully integrated into the wing design. Sail and lines are designed together, holistically. The cell widths and the internal straps that transfer the load though the sail are all designed according to the line layout. Even the panel shaping is matched with the line layout through detailed CAD simulation. The result is simple: fewer lines and stronger, faster, safer gliders.

Post C-band

We have added a Post-C band running along the top surface which seamlessly moves down to the bottom surface at the tip, connecting directly to the last line cascade. Instead of putting heavy plastic rods above the C lines we use this band to counter the common flip-up ripple caused when applying a little brake. The problem with paragliders is when a little brake is applied the cupping of the trailing edge creates lift which often buckles the profile near the Cs. We have solved this problem with the Post-C Band, an eloquent, lightweight, clean and volume reducing solution.

Progressive Stability

Using ALULA, BGD gliders are designed to have a stable and solid centre with progressively softer tips. This teaches pilots to predict and avoid deflations and stay aware of the air.

Strong shark nose

An ultra aggressive shark nose optimises stability at all speeds. Not all sharks are created equal and BGD’s shark noses are very aggressive, maximising the effects of the technology.

Triple finger diagonals

Triple Finger Diagonals create a more solid and durable wing. Across the whole chord of the profile, three-piece diagonal supports pass through holes in the ribs. They ensure structural integrity by avoiding the cloth being loaded in the bias direction. This is particularly important near the trailing edge where the profile is thin and shallower diagonal ribs supporting high loads.

Weight-optimised ribs

We have maintained the strength and rigidity of the ribs while removing unnecessary material. This means less weight for no increase in cost or reduction in strength of the wing. The hole positioning and size depends on the loads taken locally by the sail, and it is thanks to recent developments in our software that it is now possible to accurately calculate this.

Target

We are all punks. Our subculture has shocked the established order and constraints of society. We break the rules of nature, disregard the norms, and have a hell of a time doing it. The High-B PUNK was designed to sink deep into that rebellious part of your brain and enlighten you of reality. Are you a pilot that wants to know the truth? The PUNK will expose it.

Designer's notes

Controllable performance is what I call it. In the PUNK, I have added an extra level of control. Using our trademark “Bruce Goldsmith Handling” and “power steering” there is a kind of inner harmony in the glider that reacts better to pilot inputs.

“When I step off the launch with the PUNK overhead I feel comfortable and in-intimidated. The speed and performance is easier to control and understand.”

The PUNK passed certification tests very easily, and even flown above the top of the weight range, glider safety is not affected. We have decided to extend the certified weight ranges in four sizes of this wing, so you can load it up and still be within certification. The ideal weight ranges are shown in the Specs table.

The extended certified ranges, available on four sizes of Punk, are XS=50-70, S=60-95, M=75-100, ML=88-113.

Extended weight ranges are there for insurance reasons. They enable pilots to fly above the ideal weight range and still fly insured. They should not be considered at all when choosing your correct glider size.
