Wes describes himself as, “a jack-of-all-trades with a lust for life!” He’s been flying paragliders since 2014, mentored by the inimitable and sadly missed Jon ‘Bam Bam’ Malmberg. His most memorable flight was coring a thermal with a young bald eagle. “We were eye to eye for 1,000 feet before it went on glide and started doing these swoop manoeuvres a couple of hundred feet in front of me. It was amazing to watch! As he mashed the speed and left me in the dust, I noticed that his mum was flying above us. I had just gotten a flying lesson from a family of eagles!” Wes works with adaptive athletes in other sports, and was part of the Wheels4flying wheelchair paragliding competition in Colombia in 2024. Now a tandem pilot, he hopes to start flying wheelchair tandems. Why BGD? “They are great flying gliders and if you are going to be on the dance floor you might as well be spinning the most beautiful woman!”
