How can a few lines and some cloth be put together in a way that will fly us hundreds miles? For years we have been trying to build the perfect combination of these materials in an effort to fly further. Every year records are broken so we are definitely doing something right. We have gone through a lot of line and cloth to find our perfect combination in the BASE.
Bruce put his ‘all’ into this high performing EN/LTF-B rated paraglider. The BASE carefully treads that thin line of maximum safety and impressive performance. Bruce Goldsmith Handling, a unique nose design and Cord Cut Billow all make the BASE into a great package of stability and performance.
Do you remember the Airwave Sport? It was one of my favorites. The BASE is loosely based off the Sport series with a whole bunch of new technology. I added Cord Cut Billow to clean up the leading edge and help with weight and stability.
Leading edge mini ribs create a solid leading edge on speed while making essentially 80 cells without adding the weight of full ribs. I put a lot of time into perfecting the profile to maximize performance and stability on speed bar. The BASE is fast, fun, and my new favorite wing; I hope you will feel the same.
Cord Cut Billow technology has been developed to improve the form friction, glider stability and overall performance of our paragliders. Two seams run chord-wise across the top panels of the leading edge to accommodate the panel ballooning that happens when the wing is inflated. Up to five centimetres of excess material is created on the sides of an inflated flat panel bending over a wing profile. Cord Cut Billow technology absorbs the material with a 3D panel resulting in fewer ripples and improved rib profile shape and stability.
Situated along the leading edge are reinforced mini-ribs, designed to help produce a rock solid profile while on speed bar.
Cord Cut Billow and new leading edge mini-ribs allows us to lower the number of full cells while gaining the characteristics of a high cell count paraglider.
Over the years we have perfected our system of optimizing the line layout of our wings. We use numerous equations, software, and plain old experience to build our line layout. The result is simple: fewer lines making stronger, faster gliders. The Base has a very low line consumption at 245 meters on the M size.
The Base is constructed with a mix of lightweight but robust, proven, materials and only weighs in at 5.2kg(M).
Snap Locks are lightweight compact attachments that effortlessly connect brakes to the risers with a small focused magnet inside the catch and an internal locking system that holds the handle in every direction except down toward the pilot. This unique design feature means the handles don’t fall off while kiting, packing, or performing manoeuvres. The Snap Lock system solves many of the problems associated with press-studs and magnets.
