The TUNA is our high-performance lightweight harness for XC, competitions and hike-and-fly. It’s streamlined like an ocean predator and built to devour distance. At just 2.2kg (size M), it delivers exceptional efficiency without unnecessary weight. Designed with everyday usability in mind, the TUNA brings the advantages of competition harnesses to the weekend pilot.
The efficient back protector is inflatable with the provided mini pump, and rated to an impressive 27G. It covers a large body area from mid back to under the thighs. The integrated under-seat reserve has an easy-to-locate handle on the right-hand side (left-hand configuration is available on request).
The TUNA is remarkably easy to get into even compared to a traditional pod harnesses. Two buckles secure the system, while a smooth magnetic zipper makes opening and closing the pod effortless both after take-off and before landing.
The cockpit is spacious and sits outside the harness envelope, so you can access and view your instruments easily. Under the instruments is a large, zipped pocket which could take an anti-G, your sandwiches or a camera, and smaller zipped pocket near the shoulder. Back stowage space is 20l, and there is a further 5l under the seat.
In flight, the TUNA offers a comfortable, reclined position, balancing performance with long-distance comfort. It features a removable seat plate and is delivered with Edelrid karabiners and a three-step carbon speedbar.
The correct harness size takes into account pilot weight as well as height – see the chart. Sizes S, M and L are stocked in limited quantities and may sell out quickly. Other sizes are available made to order.
Fast, efficient, and unapologetically bold – this fish swims at the front of the pack!
XC is your ocean – the TUNA is built to rule it.
Designed for performance-driven cross-country and competition pilots, this harness delivers maximum aerodynamic efficiency without compromising safety or usability.
An accessible cockpit, excellent field of vision, generous storage and a high-performance inflatable protector (27G rating) make it as practical as it is performant. What was once reserved for elite racers is now accessible to dedicated weekend pilots through this refined pressurised design.
If you measure your flights in kilometres, the TUNA is your weapon of choice.
The TUNA is BGD’s first fully pressurised harness. Made in collaboration with BogdanFly, the design offers clear gains in drag reduction combined with pilot safety and comfort.
Bruce was an early pioneer in the development of pressurised harnesses. Back in 1992 he made a prototype of the first fully inflatable pressurised hang gliding harness for Airwave. It had air intakes on the pilot's shoulders.
The Airwave Ram race paragliding harness from 2005 had an inflatable back fairing. It was very popular at the time, giving very good performance for a seated harness. The idea worked really well on supine bikes, as it was light, and effective. It added around 3km/h to the cruise speed through the significant drag reduction. It was patented for paragliders, bikes and trucks at the time, but after a couple of years the patent was dropped because of the costs of keeping it up. Inflatable fairings are now widely seen on most modern high-performance harnesses.
In 2007 Bruce flew a 100% inflated fairing pressurised harness when he became Paragliding World Champion. He had developed the proto in cooperation with Luc Armant. However this harness was quite yaw unstable and was never put into production.
